Growing our Wild Garden

Wild Garden Flowers grew naturally from the overflowing generosity of the garden

Hi, we’re Jessica and Rohan. Wild Garden Flowers grew naturally from our love of gardening and the unexpected abundance it brought into our lives. During the Covid lockdowns we began building the bones of a cottage garden around our newly finished home. We edged the beds with recycled blue stone and built our circle with some gorgeous old slate tiles. I immediately began filling the beds with plants that I hoped would flower and bring beauty to the area. The garden became an incredible source of comfort and inspiration. A place where I felt connection and meaning when everything felt so uncertain.

Flowers became my favorite part of the garden

dahlias and zinnias

I wanted to fill our home with fresh flowers. I ordered my first dahlia tubers and cut flower seeds, filling every spare space I could find with flowers. Before long the food forest was overflowing with dahlias, rudbeckia and zinnias.

I was immersed in researching, ordering and growing as many cut flower varieties and flowering perennials as possible.

When the first Cafe au Lait dahlia bloomed I was mesmerised.

I was enchanted by the incredible abundance of flowers

Rohan built our first dedicated cut flower bed and reclaimed the food forest. I filled the bed with zinnias, cosmos and dahlias.

That first small cutting patch began to produce buckets full of flowers, far too many to just fill my own home and share with family and friends. I began to sell flowers to our local community.

And just like that Wild Garden Flowers was born

While I became absorbed with growing and arranging flowers, Rohan quietly became the person who made every new idea possible. From building garden beds and installing irrigation to growing as much fruit and veg as possible, he has helped shape Wild Garden Flowers from the very beginning. It has always been something we have built together.

We believe beautiful flowers begin with a healthy garden. By growing without chemicals, focusing on healthy soil and encouraging bees, birds and beneficial insects we’re creating a place where nature can thrive alongside every flower we grow.

As the flowers grew, so did my love of arranging them. Choosing flowers, foliage and interesting details that spoke to me and creating bouquets that captured the essence of the garden in each moment, the feeling of wild abundance.

We expanded the garden, adding dedicated annual beds, irrigation, new perennial beds and eventually a rose garden.

The garden has grown into a small flower farm filled with seasonal annuals and perennials, where every bouquet is still gathered by hand from whatever is flowering most beautifully.
